7.  Pros & Cons of Living in Midtown

The Pros

There are really two primary positives to living in midtown in my opinion.

Convenience

Since I have I lived in Midtown, I can say it is really nice to be a few minutes from everything.  If having things close by are important to you, I would suggest exploring the neighborhoods in the 28403 zip code.  Many neighborhoods are not evident to the naked eye when driving down main roads, since many neighborhoods in the area are small.

Trees

I am a big fan of mature landscapes.  Since neighborhoods tend to be older in this area of Wilmington, there seems to be more character and charm in my opinion in this area of Wilmington.  That is not to say the rest of Wilmington is void of mature landscaping.  But there seems to be a consistency with most neighborhoods in this area, despite of the price range.  I will point out other areas in Wilmington that have an abundance of trees in future posts.

The Cons

There is only major negative that stands out from a big picture standpoint.

Traffic Frustrations

One of Wilmington’s biggest challenges is that the commercial areas can be quite cluttered.  Wilmington has grown in spurts over the years.  And it is easy to get frustrated with the many traffic lights and driveways and business signs.  In addition to the many traffic lights, many of the intersections have shorter than normal light signal times.  As a result, it is not uncommon to see people get frustrated when someone is taking their time.  New Hanover County has one of the highest rates for car collisions in the state of North Carolina according to AAA Carolinas.  Bear in mind, even if you choose not to live in the 28403 zip code, you will still find yourself venturing into this part of town if you live in Wilmington NC.
