The change is simple and subtle. Yet it captures the new focus I have for this blog.
I have changed the name of this blog to “The Wilmington Search“. I know. Nothing fancy right?
Let me share the reason behind the change. For some time now, I have been struggling with how to narrow the focus of this blog. Under the original name – Wilmington NC :: Real Estate – I wrote for three audiences. Investors. Buyers. Sellers. I quickly discovered there were endless possibilities on what to write about, and this created a problem. The same problem you have when you look at a menu with 100 items and the waiter asks you what you would like to order. Indecision. Funny how that happens.
So I made a simple decision. I decided my audience for this blog would be buyers researching their next home purchase. I plan to address sellers on my featured blog which has also been sitting still until I decided what the focus would be. I am excited about that blog as well. I will be writing about how the internet is changing the way properties are marketed and sold.
In light of the new changes, I have decided to toss my old list of blog topics overboard and start fresh with a new writing strategy.
Here is what I came up with:
1. The buying process is a search.
When you are planning to buy a home, you enter into search mode.
- Search Google for information.
- Search the MLS for homes
- Search for the good neighborhoods
- Search for jobs (if you are relocating here)
- Search for information on schools (if you have kids)
- Search for information on how the market is doing
- Search for real estate agent who will be your buyer’s agent
- Search for financing (Broker or Bank)
- Search for Movers
- Search for Inspectors, attorney, surveyor, and on and on
Now you can see why buying a home can be stressful. And this is what The Wilmington Search is going to be devoted to. And number 2 sheds light on how.
2. Everyday, I am tackling the questions and needs concerning the list above with my buying clients.
- Everyday I am in the MLS researching the market and homes on the market.
- Everyweek I am out in neighborhoods with/for clients to track down the best possible neighborhoods.
- I am constantly in contact with excellent lenders, attorneys, inspectors, surveyors and other needed service providers.
Let me lay out the new focus.
Instead of writing articles around an ideal list of topics, I am going to be reporting about what I am researching for clients, stories of success and failure, tips I have recently learned from other professionals, and hopefully many impromptu interviews with people in Wilmington with my Flip Video camcorder.
This way I can incorporate what I am doing everyday to tackle the challenge of the search process and deliver to you an exceptional blog with very relevant information on searching for a new home in Wilmington NC.
I am really excited about this. I will be posting to my platial map information on the neighborhoods I am working in and my personal photos of the neighborhoods. I will also be posting lots of photos of neighborhoods and area attractions on Flickr and my Flickr map. This way you can explore Wilmington NC with me. A learn as we go, if you will. This will be a great resource if you are thinking of relocating to Wilmington NC.
So what can you do to make The Wilmington Search great?
Three things.
1. Join me on the journey.
Sign up for updates and follow me as I share my insights and findings of Wilmington properties and neighborhoods. You can do this easiest by signing up for updates by email. Or you can use an RSS reader like Google Reader to keep up to date. If you are unfamiliar with RSS, watch this video.
2. Post your questions, insights, and thoughts in the comment area.
If you do not live in Wilmington, use the comment section to ask me your questions about areas in and around Wilmington. I will work it into my schedule, and I will post responses to your comments. Also, if you live in Wilmington, feel free to add your 2 cents about the areas I am writing about. What you love – what you hate. Your local insight will be helpful for those who are not from Wilmington NC.
3. Contact me about hiring me to be your Buyer’s Agent.
My clients will be the basis for the content on this blog. So if you need help with your real estate search, I would like to ask you to consider using me as your buyer’s agent. You can learn more about me here.
So, what are you searching for in your Wilmington Search? Post your comment below!
